The world of animated superhero films is a vast and interesting machine. Batman, especially, has seen a lot of action in recent years and the new film Batman: Bad Blood is certainly no exception. It is a high octane and intense crime actioner, animated and presented in a way that will probably attract more adults than kids. I caught actress Yvonne Strahovski (Batwoman) on the red carpet at the premiere of the film and she dished on working on the project. Here’s how that conversation went:

So what is it about action and sci-fi that fascinates you?

That fascinates me?

Yes.

Well, I feel like I actually have been thrown into this world more than me coming knocking on the door of it, you know what I mean? With the stuff that I get to do, it’s generally sci-fi oriented, so I’m kind of, I’m just a part of this world now.

You’re sucked in, that’s it.

I am, I really am sucked in. I would have to say the best thing about it is actually the support and the fan base and everybody who loves it, and they just, when you do a project, something like this, people just know it inside out, and they have high expectations and they’re very involved.

And it’s not just kids, it’s also adults as well.

Yeah, yeah, right.

What’s it like reaching so many people?

I mean, it’s phenomenal. You know, you don’t really get to feel it until you go to things like Comic Con, which I go to every year. That’s a great time to sit, you know, in a panel in front of thousands of people and actually feel the love and feel people’s passion for whatever it is that they’re proud of.

What was it like, did you prepare? Did you read comic books much?

I don’t know if I’ve ever read a comic book in my life. (laughs)

You may anger some people here!

Really?

But I’m more of a movie person, so your secret is safe with me.

Yeah, so I mean, but you pretty much – when you’re doing something like this, you walk into the room and you get a sense of what’s going on right away because the people behind it, the director and everyone, they have such a good handle on everything. And I feel honored to be doing the voice of Batwoman. That’s pretty cool.

Do you think you’ll ever transition to film, to live action?

Who knows?

Because you certainly have the height.

The height, yes, though the shoes help me with that. (laughs)

Very nice. What’s next for you? What’s on the pipe line?

A couple things on the way that I can’t officially talk about, so yeah.

Gotcha. Film, animation, live-action, what do you prefer?

They’re all very different beasts. I like them all, and I feel blessed to actually be able to do all of them, which is really good. But I mean, acting will always be the number one thing, though, but animation is a version of that.

Is there a character you’d want to play in the future? A dream role?

In anything?

In anything, yeah.

You know, I’m a sucker for classics. Like, I grew up reading Pride and Prejudice and those types of things, so I’d love to play, like, get the corset one day and do old school with the beautiful dresses, something like that.

I could see that. The next Cinderella.

(laughs) Maybe!
