Todd and the Book of Pure Evil is a curious thing. It’s a Canadian horror-comedy television series about a small band of high-schoolers battling evil caused by a cursed book (ala The Evil Dead). Each episode follows a hapless teenager whom the book finds and then puts a curse upon. This of course is followed by paranormal activity and eventual bloodshed. It is then up to stoner Todd and his friends to find the book and conquer the evil it unleashes. Season one is now out on DVD and you might want to check this cool show out.
Todd (Alex House) and Curtis (Billy Turnbull) are two potheads who come across the Book of Pure Evil. Todd has a huge crush on Jenny (Maggie Castle) and Hannah (Melanie Leishman) has a huge crush on Todd. Together, these four form a team dedicated to finding the book. They are aided by the school janitor Jimmy (Jason Mewes) and the shady and peculiar guidance counselor Atticus (Chris Leavins).
The best way to describe Todd and the Book of Pure Evil would be The Evil Dead meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer with stoner and heavy metal references. The comedy is silly and at times smart. The horror is over-the-top and downright awesome. Expect lots of blood. Todd and the Book of Pure Evil: The Complete First Season is a twisted yet fun horror-comedy series that may shock you and at the same time crack you up. This series is definitely worth picking up.
