Queen & Country

All hail the Queen, the good people of England and the equally good people at PBS who have presented audiences with Queen & Country, a very detailed and insightful look into the history and traditions of the British monarchy. This four-hour documentary is now on DVD and if you are curious about the inner workings of England’s royal practices, then this is the perfect program for you.

Hosted by veteran newsman Sir Trevor McDonald, Queen & Country is a four-part look into how things exactly work in the British monarchy. The first part “London: Royal City” showcases England’s capital and provides a little history about Queen Elizabeth II and the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. The second part “Royal Visit” follows the Queen around on her various trips to ceremonies and events.

“The Queen’s Possessions” is the third part of the documentary and it deals with the Queen’s varied assortment of items and places such as The Tower of London and nearly 150 portraits of herself done over the past six decades. The documentary also shows how a special 3D hologram portrait of the Queen is made. The fourth and final segment is “Traveller” and it deals with the Queen and how she makes long trips for official government business and at 85 years of age, she certainly does it well.

Queen & Country is a documentary full of exquisite footage, lovely editing and engaging subject matter. It is truly a work of art and if you have ever wondered what the Queen of England’s life is like and wanted to know more about royal practices, then look no further, Queen & Country is right up you alley.
