Classical music is one of the earliest forms of entertainment. Before electricity, talented people would perform in front of others and generate beautiful music with their musical instruments. The instruments were extensions of the players’ very beings and the violin is one type of this extension and a truly marvelous one at that. PBS has just released a very interesting documentary on DVD called Violin Masters: Two Gentlemen of Cremona and if you are a violin connoisseur or just curious about the subject, then this DVD is definitely worth checking out.

Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2) narrates Violin Masters and his highly elegant English accent is perfect for this very classy program. The documentary focuses on two legendary violinmakers, Antonio Stradivari and Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù and the impact their craftsmanship had, not only on the Italian town of Cremona but on the entire world in general.

The violins designed and built by these 17th and 18th century artists are to this day, exquisite and pricey items. Music was the art that these tools helped create. Interviews from historians, experts, luthiers, and virtuosos shed light on the instruments’ construction, sound, and shockwaves that they sent through the music world. The violins that Antonio Stradivari and Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesù created are not only musical instruments but they are expensive pieces of art. To own one would be amazing because it is item that only few possess. They are all valuable pieces of treasure and the music they create is also pure gold.
