Interview: Liam Neeson Talks ‘A Monster Calls’

Over the decades, many actors have secured themselves as cinematic icons. To transcend the film screen and move into audiences’ hearts is no small feat. The hugely diverse Liam Neeson is one such actor and from Schindler’s List to Michael Collins to Star Wars to Taken, this is a man who is no stranger to diversity in terms of picking roles. His latest film is no exception and in A Monster Calls, Neeson takes on the role of a gigantic tree monster (in motion capture), only to help guide a young boy through a very difficult time. Neeson was kind enough to sit down with me and other members of the media in a very special roundtable interview. Here’s how that interview went:

Interview: Director Renny Harlin Talks ‘Skiptrace’

Action is a film genre where directors tend to get a little lazy and just include explosions and over the top gunfights. Fortunately, this isn’t the case with Renny Harlin, a gifted filmmaker who has en eye for action and has supplied the film industry with some of the most intense and exiting action movies there are. From Die Hard 2: Die Harder to Cliffhanger to The Long Kiss Goodnight, the man definitely knows what he’s doing. In Skiptrace (his latest action/comedy), we get a fun buddy adventure starring Jackie Chan and Johnny Knoxville. Renny was nice enough to chat with me about the film. Here’s how that interview went:

Shirley MacLaine & Jessica Lange Star in New Comedy ‘Wild Oats’ Coming to Home Video October 4, 2016

The concept of the aging adventurer who has fallen from grace, only to try and rise again is something film and television has embraced wholeheartedly over the years. To laugh at one’s self in the face of getting older provides for some really strong entertainment and the latest pair to embrace this concept is that of Academy Award-winning actresses Shirley MacLaine (Terms of Endearment) and Jessica Lange (Tootsie). They have a new film coming to home video and Wild Oats may very well be the next Grumpy Old Men, but flipped gender-wise.

Hell or High Water

The western film genre is something of a rarity these days. Sure, we get the occasional gritty cowboy adventure but when it comes to modern-day westerns, that concept is something that quite often eludes us. The new crime thriller Hell or High Water is a fresh take on the genre and with a very strong cast, top notch direction, and a razor-sharp script, this is one movie you’re going to want to check out.

Amateur Night

In 1999, comedic actor Jason Biggs made a name for himself having intercourse with pastry. American Pie paved the way for a new era of raunchy sex comedies and now, nearly two decades later, Biggs is still making the same type of movie. Typecast and hungry for cash, the (seemingly) one-note actor is back in yet another piece of mindless ribald fare. Amateur Night is Biggs’ latest and while it is a relatively uninspired romp, it will probably make you chuckle here and there while definitely evoking some deja vu. Ever since American Pie, movies like Amateur Night have made their way to late night cable and most likely to your Netflix queue.

Blu-ray Review: Hollywood in Vienna: The World of James Horner

On June 22, 2015, the film community lost a truly beautiful mind. James Roy Horner was and will always be remembered as one of Hollywood’s most influential film composers. The impact he has had on movies is nothing short of phenomenal and with blockbusters such as Avatar, Titanic, Braveheart, and Apollo 13, the man certainly left his mark and his legacy is truly, truly strong. Tragically, however, at the age of 61, Horner left this world when he died in a sudden and unfortunate plane crash. A true artist, Horner’s memory lives on with his diverse film scores and with a very special tribute Blu-ray set. Released one year after Horner lost his life, Hollywood in Vienna: The World of James Horner is the perfect way to honor this man and with his tremendous body of work being performed in front of him in Vienna in 2013, audiences, fans, family, and friends will always look back on Horner’s life as one full of triumph, tenderness, and utter beauty, much like the way his music invoked in all of us.

Interview: Actor Andy Powers Talks ‘Clown’

The horror film genre has been in something of a decline in recent years. It seems like haunted houses, possessed children, and jump scares make up most movies in this realm and that’s a shame because horror films used to smart, imaginative, and genuinely scary. Fortunately, with Clown, we get a strong dose of 80s slasher film style fun. Andy Powers (In Her ShoesUntitled: A Love Story) stars as an unlucky dad who when puts on a mysterious clown suit he finds in the attic, it soon begins to change him… Powers is sensational in the lead role and in this interview, we had a little fun talking about making the film. Here’s how it went:
